Real Opportunity
It took a leap of faith when Rob and Staci Eggert moved from Sioux Falls to Howard in 2000 because they both had good jobs working for the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s department. But they knew they wanted to raise their children in a small town.

Initially, Staci had to put her career on hold, taking a few part-time jobs while Rob worked as the deputy sheriff in Miner County.

Today, Staci is the executive director of the SD Sheriff’s Association and still works out of Howard, proving that you can have it all in a small town.

For generations Americans were told the best opportunities sat waiting for them in big cities.  That’s less and less the case today, though, as small town industries compete in the same global market as urban companies, and as technologies reduce rural isolation in education, medicine, and other fields.  Small towns increasingly claim the nation’s best real estate deals, too, both in commercial and residential properties.  The past decade, Howard has not only watched the gap narrow between urban and small town potential, but has positioned itself to capitalize on opportunities no one dreamed of just a generation ago.  For residents that translates to specific personal opportunities that aren’t duplicated exactly in any other community, big or small.
